What is Students of Biomedical Engineering (SBME)?
Students of Biomedical Engineering (SBME) is the local student organization at the University of Utah that melds the students of the Bioengineering department to intrinsic resources to aid them in their quests while attending the University of Utah. SBME increases faculty-to-student interaction, fosters relationships among biomedical engineering students, and promotes BMES (see below) membership. In addition, the organization maintains and seeks to improve the bioengineering lounge located in the Merrill Engineering Building. SBME is not BMES or EMBS but provides access to these professional organizations.
What is the differnece between SBME, BMES, and EMBS?
In short, SBME is the on-campus organization that represents the students of bioengineering. They seeks funding to provde its members with benifits such as the student loungs and the "Lunch with a Professor" program. Their funding mainly comes from the Department of Bioengineering and ASUU. BMES and EMBS are national, professional organizations that have amazing benifits. One of SBME's goals is to encourage and promote membership in these professional organizations. BMES and EMBS do not provide any funding for SBME members with the exception of conference expenixtures.
