Research

Biomaterials and Tissue engineering, as applied to neural interfaces/neuroscience/ connective tissue

Current Research

Our group is focused on reducing inflammation at the biotic abiotic interface, and developing technology for for targeting nerve outgrowth. A central theme in our work involves understanding how to better integrate medical devices into the nervous system including stimulating and recording electrodes and bridging devices that vary in their physical and chemical properties. In addition, we are developing force generating bioreactors for studying how the microenvironment of connective tissue influences its composition and function, and have recently developed a novel approach for harvesting ECM from cells cultured in vitro.
