HLADY GROUP RESEARCH WEB SITE: Hlady Research Group

Research in the Hlady Group in the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Utah focuses on molecular processes which occur at interfaces and involve biological macromolecules and man-made materials.

Current projects include the study of plasma protein adsorption kinetics and its regulation by materials surface chemistry, the use of proteins at interfaces as transducers of recognition events and the study of cells at biomaterial surfaces.

The biomaterials surface research is focussed on development of biomimetic surface coatings based on hydrophilic macromolecules and/or on transferred Langmuir-Blodgett films, the nano-mechanical characterization of surfaces using SFM elasticity and adhesion mapping.

Other studies involve the use of mixed lipids Langmuir monolayers as a 2-D templates for the macromolecules and virus particle binding and recognition, and for the nucleation of inorganic phases.

Dr. Vladimir Hlady also serves as a Director of The Center for Biopolymers at Interfaces.
