BME Student Spencer Madsen Selected as the U's First Presidential Fellow

The Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress (CSPC) has selected Department of Bioengineering Ph.D. student Spencer Madsen as the University of Utah’s first Presidential Fellow. He is one of the only 75 students nationwide chosen as 2013-14 Presidential Fellows. The CSPC’s mission includes: generating innovative solutions to current national challenges as well as educating and inspiring the next generation of America’s leaders to incorporate civility, inclusiveness, and character into their public and private lives and discourse.

Thank you, Johns Hopkins University: Dr. Michael Yu to Join Dept. of Bioengineering

The Bioengineering department is delighted to welcome Professor S. Michael Yu, Ph.D., to the faculty. His research focuses on biologically based materials. He brings an internationally recognized research program to the U from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, within the Whiting School of Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.

Henry Kopecek to Receive University of Helsinki's Highest Honor: Honorary Doctor of Philosophy

In another development related to research inspired by biological materials, Jindrich Henry Kopecek, Ph.D., D.Sc., Distinguished Professor of Bioengineering, Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Utah has been selected by the Faculty at the University of Helsinki to receive the highest honor that University can grant, the degree of Doctor of Philosophy honoris causa. This honor will be bestowed upon Dr. Kopececk in May of 2014.
