The Utah economy is booming and times have never looked more promising for growth in the biomedical and life science sector. State support through the Utah Science and Technology Research Initiative is very exciting and, no doubt, will fuel biomedical innovation at Utah universities. Key to translation are effective relationships between our universities and industries.

This September 21

& 22

nd

the Utah Department of Biomedical Engineering will be hosting the 3

rd

annual Mountain West Biomedical Engineering Conference at The Canyons Resort in Park City, Utah. The conference will provide a nexus to foster interactions and exchange information. At the conference last year, 142 students from 18 different universities attended. There were 15 podium presentations and 49 posters reporting new scientific discoveries and translational research.

You can help us to grow this local conference into a collaborative forum. At this juncture, securing the support of our university friends and business partners for the conference is crucial. This year we are offering several levels of sponsorship that are outlined in the sponsorship packet. The main benefit for sponsorship is to help build a community that ties together students, faculty and industry so that we may better collaborate, share resources and develop new ideas.

I hope you will attend the conference this year and consider sponsorship.

Sincerely,

Richard D. Rabbitt, Ph.D.

Professor and Chair,Biomedical Engineering
